About Dingo Creek Vineyard

David & Marg Gillespie bought their 11ha property on the Tandur Traveston Road 10 years ago and planted their vines in 1997, before opening their iconic Dingo Creek Cellar Door in 2000.

Dingo Creek Vineyard is ideally positioned an hour and a half north of Brisbane in the beautiful Cooloola region touching Noosa touching Fraser Island with all it has to offer in between. We are able to cater for bus groups large or small anytime of the week by appointment. We pride ourselves on using quality fresh local produce and able to provide a menu to suit your needs, morning tea, lunch or afternoon tea is available along with wine tasting and informative talk on the history of the vineyard and wines. Our facilities included a ramp and toilet facilities for disabled guests and large covered deck capable of seating 60 guests in comfort. Dingo Creek Vineyard has a wonderful relaxing atmosphere and our large exotic bird aviary, 18mtrs x 6mtrs is a feature for both young and old.

Dingo Creek is a participant in the Noosa Food Trail and part of a tour preferred by the Hyatt Regency Coolum, Dingo Creek Vineyard prides itself on producing wine of the highest quality along with a menu using only the freshest local produce.

David and Marg are proud of the fact that they were the first vineyard and cellar door establishment in the Cooloola Shire. Having moved from the great wine region of Rutherglen, growing grapes and producing wine wasn’t in their initial plans. Once they had lived in the beautiful Traveston valley area for three years they realised the great potential for a vineyard given the microclimate their property displayed for grape growing. Cold winter nights with frosts to give their vines full dormancy, gentle breezes through the vineyard to assist with humidity and undulation of their land providing the grapes with great drainage, all these attributes play their part in assisting David and Marg to produce high quality grapes at Dingo Creek Vineyard.

Recognising the importance of wine tourism Marg and David set out to establish a cellar door that was customer friendly, keeping in mind the diverse range of visitors from wine novices to connoisseurs, local to over seas guests wishing to get the real Australian experience they are able to cater to all needs. Ideally situated between Brisbane and Fraser Island has ensured a constant flow of Brisbane visitors eager to get away from the every day and re charge their batteries in the tranquil surrounds of the vineyard.

The Dingo Creek name was derived from a seasonal creek which flows into the six mile creek on the boundary of the vineyard, they have been told the aboriginal translation is "watdhakarumbong". Another interesting historical fact passed on by the locals is the crossing on the creek that was supposedly used when Cobb and Co travelled from Gympie to Tewantin in the 1800’s. The trip from Brisbane to Maryborough that came through Cooran and along the six mile to Gympie took three days.

Vigneron: David Gillespie

David Gillespie was schooled in the finer arts of grape growing during a stint with the Department of Agriculture. From 1982 to 1988 David carried out experimental work on crops and pasture and was responsible for the management of several sites throughout NE Victoria.

David was also heavily involved in the Rutherglen winery walkabout weekend that won the Australian small festival of the year several years in a row.

It can be said that David’s wife Marg has wine running through her veins in the metaphorical sense, at least after being raised and then working in the industry in Victoria. Marg’s father worked with Seppelts and her with Buller’s winery.
